God Doesn't Keep Back-Up Hard Drives

Plunk

The delete key on my computer keyboard sank under my determined finger. "Are you sure you want to delete this file?" the computer impertinently asked. "Yes", I typed, pleased to rid myself of a file that I no longer cared to keep. Then I watched for a split second as the file was completely erased from my hard drive. Now, even if I wanted to retrieve the file and find out what had been written there, I could not. All the data was gone, completely eradicated, as if it had never existed at all.

At the time, if I had a back-up hard drive, I could retrieve the information, but I didn't. No back-up drive, no more file. So the information was gone forever. The procedure was so simple too. I simply depressed one key, answered a yes/no question and poof! The file was gone.

As I sat and stared at the emply screen, I realized that God's forgiveness operates very much like the delete key on my computer. In Jeremiah 31:34, God says: "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more". So because of Christ, by a simple request, my sins can be forgiven and erased. They can be deleted, and wiped from God's memory as if they never occurred.

And, if I were to search the "hard drive" of Heaven, I wouldn't find a trace of my sin file. Where my sins had been, I'd see a blank screen, filled only with the love of God. When Christ died on the Cross for me, He pushed the delete key on my sins. Then the screen blipped the question: "Are You sure You want to delete this file?"

My affirmative answer is sent to God when I confess my sins. Then God types: "Yes", and my sins are erased for all time---no getting them back, no dredging them up to review them again, no finding them hidden away on a back-up drive. God's simple: "Yes!" and my sins are gone, fully canceled by the Blood of Christ.
