Gospel Jazz at it’s best! The Fabulous Instrumental group: KOINONIA! on “Fat City!”: 17th & 20th April!

More than a feelin (1982)!

In the 1970s and 80’s, a fusion in jazz music gave birth to a genre called jazz-funk. One notable pioneer in this genre was Koinonia.

Koinonia established themselves as a huge sensation in Scandinavia and Western Europe, performing to sell-out crowds from 1982 to 1991 in Norway, Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland and France. Their Latin-infused rhythms and upbeat melodies gave them a distinct and cultured sound.

Taken from a Greek word used in the Bible to mean “intimate fellowship” Koinonia was notably one of the first Christian, though primarily instrumental, jazz bands.

As one of the most highly acclaimed performers of our time with five Grammy®awards, four Billboard Music Awards, three platinum records, five gold records, and eleven million units sold, Sandi Patty is simply known as The Voice.

Sandi is the most awarded female vocalist in contemporary Christian music history, with 40 Dove Awards. She was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and as an Indiana Living Legend in 2007. She has released over 30 albums, including her latest Dove Award winning album, The Edge of the Divine (2010). Her debut full length symphonic pops album “Broadway Stories”, conducted by Maestro Jack Everly, was released on October 18, 2011.

Sandi was introduced to the world with her rendition of The Star Spangled Banner during the rededication of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. Virtually overnight she became one of the country’s best-loved performers. I remember talking with my brother Andraé Crouch back in the ’70′s. I was speaking to him about how his contemporary style revolutionized American Christian Contemporary and Black Gospel. Andraé said: “Brother Christian, if you think my music is way out there for this generation, listen to SEAWIND!”

I had never heard of them till then.
An amazing Gospel jazz and funk band from Hawaii!

Eventually they came to Dallas and there has never been a jazz/funk/soul Gospel band like that ever in the States. Even to this day, in 2013, still I know of no other like them. I was blown away! And even this cd, recorded many decades ago, still is smokin’!

You are in for a treat tonight. This group was bold in Christ and way ahead of their time. They took Gospel music to clubs, jazz and blues festivals concert halls where the Good News had never been heard. That is our mission! Even today where can we hear such great christian music as Seawind?! They are still rare!

SEAWIND!

I am in touch still with that group, Larry, Pauline, Ken, all those killer musicians whose names you continue to see on the back of many gospel and secular cd’s. When you got it goin’ on for Christ, even the world wants you!

Site cleaned up after malware link infection

The website was infected on Jan 1st 2013 with a malware link repeatedly popping up on the front page in the excerpts of the newests posts.

No other harm was caused as far as I know. The site was tested with several virus and malware scanners both online and offline.

This timeless Gold Record of Andraé’s:

TAKE ME BACK!

He is called: “The Father of Contemporary Christian Music”, a title befitting him for sure.

He changed the whole direction of Gospel Music, first in America and then around the world.

His songs have been translated into numerous languages. In French, German, Swedish, Russian, Finnish, Icelandic, Norweigian, Danish, Italian,Portugese, Chinese, Japanese and the list goes on.

For some 40 years or so, Andraé and his twin sister Pastor Sandra Crouch, have toured the world, bringing the Gospel with them. They are both pastoring together, their parents’ church in California, and still touring after all these decades.

TAKE ME BACK! is indeed a classic Crouch recording that is heavily anointed.

With Andraé in the studio in Dallas, as he helped mix a recording I was doing. That was a real thrill for me in those days! Circa 1960′s.
