På vägen till avrättningsplatsen träffade de en man från
Kyrene i Afrika som hette Simon. Honom tvingade de att bära Jesu Körs.

de Cyrène (en Afrique). Ils le réquisitionnèrent de force
pour lui faire porter la Croix de Jésus.

he pakottivat kantamaan hänen ristiänsä.
"Simon
of Cyrene": (Christian-Charles de Plicque, is shown here in
this photo, comfortiing his wife: "Debora" (Nina Leskinen) at midnight,
on a hill, overlooking Jersualem. They were ex-slaves, coming to Jerusalem
to start a new life as free people. But they were heavily persecuted shortly
after they arrived, because of their color, because they did not speak the
language well, and they were looked at as untrustworthy and people that did
not fit into that society at the time.
The people of Jerusalem "said" they loved Simon. But they only "loved" him, because he could dance, act, sing, make people smile... He telling interesting and funny stories that kept the crowds amused.... But in reality, they did not care for he or his wife at all, and talked behind their backs all the time.
The jewish shopkeeper (Kauppias), was a "friend" of Simon, but only
because Simon knew all the gossip in the city and the shopkeeper would pay
Simon for this "helpful information" that kept him one step ahead
of the other shopkeepers in the city.
The shopkeeper himself, thought that Jesus was from the devil and did not believe, like many still today, that Jesus was the Messiah. Even at the end of the film, when given an opportunity to receive Christ, still the shopkeeper refused. Many others however did chose to receive and follow the Lord!
Here in this scene of the photo, Simon tries to comfort his wife. They are trying to escape Jerusalem during the night, so that hopefully no one will see them and try to attack or steal the few things they were left with. They robbed their house, stole all of Simons' money (which to him, as with many people in the world, was everything)...
People even said that Simons' wife, Debora, was actually lying when she said that Jesus healed her leg. She was crippled in one leg, before she met Jesus. But after her miraculous healing by the Lord, many who continued to refuse to believe in Jesus, said she was just "faking being crippled" from the beginning, long before her "so-called" miracle...
Men and women today are still running and working themselves to death, literally, for money... People continue lying, cheating and using people, for their own advantage, taking all the credit for everything, for themselves, and denying the One (Jesus) that made their very lives possible.
But suddenly in the scene below, Maria Magdalena (Päivi Sini Virtanen) appears, and tells Simon and Debora that Jesus is no longer in the grave, but that He is risen! That they do not have to run away, but now, they can return to Jerusalem and really begin to live their lives, freely, and in Christ, because of what He did on the Cross.
The film is not really about Simon of Cyrene at all, but about everyday men and women, lost and without hope. The Bible actually tells us very little about this man Simon of Cyrene. Only that he was forced, by the roman soldiers, to pick up the Cross of our Lord and carry It, after the Lord became too weak. But the most important thing to remember is that Jesus carried the Cross first!
We see in the film that the world has not changed much since over 2000 years ago. We still are in need of a Saviour. Aren't you glad He is there for us?! Amen.
