1700 gospellaulua säveltänyt, kahdeksan Grammy-palkintoa saanut, yli 70:ssä maassa konsertoinut Andrae Crouch on varmasti kansainvälisesti menestynein gospel tähti. Lähes 70-vuotias taitelija ja pastori esiintyi amerikkalaisten ja suomalaisten laulajien ja Higher Ground bandin kanssa Suomessa viikonloppuna.
Perjantaina olivat ensin harjoitukset Helsingissä, lauantaina esiintyminen Keuruulla Iso Soitto -tapahtumassa, sunnuntaina Radio Dein konsertti Helsingissä ja maanantaina konsertti Turussa. Valitettavasti aikataulu oli niin tiukka, että konsertit alkoivat myöhässä joka paikassa.
Keuruulla oli odotettu jopa puolitoista tuntia, joten järjestänä olin todella hermostunut, kun Helsingissä ihmiset jonottivat pitkin Kallion katuja Saalem-temppeliin. Ehkäpä se jää Saalem-seurakunnankin historiaan, kun tuhat ihmistä odotti sisäänpääsyä seurakunnan tiloihin. Onneksi sää oli suotuisa ja suurin osa ihmisistä ymmärtäväisiä.
Kun konsertti oli jo tunnin myöhässä, marssin päättäväisesti sakastiin ja ajattelin ilmoittaa esiintyjille, että nyt yleisö käy jo kuumana monessakin mielessä. Mutta Andrae Crouch johti siellä rauhassa yhteistä rukousta ja Pyhä henki ympäröi kaikkia - ei ollut enää mitään kiireettä. Tärkeintä ei ollut meidän ihmisten suunnitelmat vaan Jumalan läsnäolo.
Seuraava parituntinen olikin yhteinen ylistystapahtuma, jota johti pastori Andrae Crouch. Crouch kertoi meille olevansa elävä todistus siitä, kuinka Jumala voi käyttää tavallista ihmistä välineenään. Mies kertoi, kuinka hän oli saanut pienenä poikana Jumalalta ihmeenä soittamisen lahjan. Todistusten ja rukousten lomassa saimme toki nauttia ihanista, kaikille tutuista kappaleista, joiden sanat myös hoitivat meitä.
Muutaman niistä Crouch pystyi itsekin laulamaan kokonaan, mutta loistava kuoro lauloi vaikeimmat osuudet. Crouch kertoi kuinka hänen vanhempansa kuolivat syöpään 90-luvulla ja kuinka hän itsekin on sairastellut vakavasti. Tämä näkyi Crouchin käpertyneestä olemuksesta, eikä hän enää pystynyt kävelemäänkään ilman avustajaa
Mutta kun laulettiin reipasta ylistyslaulua, näki kuinka hän kaikista sairauksistaan huolimatta svengasi, näki kuinka hänen sielussaan hänen säveltämänsä ja sanoittamansa gospel soi. Siinä tilanteessa uskon meidän kaikkien kuulleen hänen laulunsa sielumme korvilla.
Harvoin suomalaisessa seurakunnassa, ehkäpä koska olen luterilainen, kuulee sellaista käsien taputusta ja innostuneita huutoja. Silti Crouch ihmetteli, miksi me suomalaiset olemme niin hiljaa ja "coolina" Jumalan edessä. Kuitenkin uskallamme näyttää tunteitamme urheilukilpailuissa!
Eihän metelin pitäminen tietysti ole mikään itsetarkoitus. Crouchin opetuksen ydin onkin siinä, että kun me ylistämme Jumalaa ja olemme yhteydessä häneen, ei millään eikä kenelläkään muulla pitäisi olla mitään merkitystä. Mutta kyllä me suomalaiset parhaamme teimme ja lauloimme yhdessä upean kuoron kanssa "Jeesus is the answer". Se sanoma jäi soimaan sydämeeni.
Aivan erityisesti ilahduin, kun Radio Dein mustan gospelin erityisasiantuntija, Radio Dein Fat city -ohjelman toimittaja, Andrea Crouchin vanha ystävä ja fani, Christian-Charles de Plicque oli siepattu sairaalasta kesken hoitojen ja hän pääsi eturiviin nauttimaan tilaisuudesta.
Kun nämä kaksi seitsemänkymppistä, sairauksien kanssa taistelevaa taiteilijaa, juttelivat aamutunneille asti, olin kiitollinen Jumalalle tästä kohtaamisesta. Sen satoakin varmaan kuulemme Radio Dein "Fat City!" -ohjelmissa. Nämä miehet ovat eläviä Jumalan ihmeitä, jotka edelleen jaksavat konsertoida ja tehdä uuttakin musiikkia.
de Plicquekin julkaisi keväällä uuden levyn "Dying to Live" ja Andrea Crouchin 18 levy "The Journey" julkaistiin Amerikassa juuri ennen Skandinavian kiertuetta ja se on tulossa kohta Suomeen myyntiin. Sitä kannattaa kysellä Dei-kaupastakin.

1700 Gospel songs composed by Crouch and winner of eight Grammy Awards, received and ministered in more than 70 countries, performer Andrae Crouch is definitely an internationally successful star of gospel music. The nearly 70-year-old artist and pastor appeared with 3 American Black Gospel background singers and 3 Finnish singers(TriSis), and the Finlands' Higher Ground Band as his backup band in Finland last weekend.
Friday was rehearsal time after the Crouch Entourage arrived from California. The first concert in the city of Keuruu on saturday night. On Sunday, Radio Dei sponsored concert was held in Helsinki, and on Monday a final concert in Turku, Finland. Unfortunately, the schedule was so tight that the concerts began late in every place.
In the city of Keuruu the audience had to wait one and a half hours, so I was really nervous about Radio Dei's turn to organise the event, when the Helsinki people queued up along the streets of Kallio area, at the Salem-temple (Pentecostal Church). Perhaps the first time in Salem's church history, they had a thousand people that waited for admission to the church premises. Fortunately, the weather was favorable, and most people understood.
When the concert was already an hour late, the public began to wonder what was going on, and I thought to tell the performers that now, the audience is already hot (nervous) in many ways. But when Andraé Crouch, led a peaceful prayer and the Holy Spirit surrounded us all - there was no longer any stress. The most important thing was not our own plans, but God's presence and His plans.
The next couple of hours was a great celebration, led by Pastor Andrae Crouch. Crouch told us that he is a living testimony of how God can use any every day man or woman to do His work. He told how he had received a miracle from God as a little boy. He began playing the piano as a Gift from God. Many wonderful things happened and prayers intermixed during the concert... Of course we got to enjoy the lovely, familiar to all songs, whose lyrics ministered and took care of us all.
Crouch's classic trademark songs, even I could sing, a few of them myself, but a great choir= (the audience), sang the most difficult parts. Crouch told how his parents died of cancer in the 90's and how he himself is seriously ill. This could be seen curled up in his body, he is no longer able to walk without assistance either.
But when the songs of praise sung at his full power, we saw through all his illnesses, he was swinging and on fire. We saw his soul in his music and the Gospel lyrics and music was in total marching speed. I think we all heard his songs in our ears, and in our souls.
Rarely in the Finnish church, perhaps because I am a Lutheran, we rarely hear hand-clapping and shouts of enthusiasm. Crouch wondered why Finns are so quiet and "cool". He mentioned how strange it is that people can scream their lungs out at sport events, yet when they go to church you could hear a pen drop... Church is the place where people should be shouting the loudest! He went on to say also that making noise, of course, is not everything in itself.
Crouch preached in the core of his teaching the fact that when we praise God, and we are in contact with Him, and no one other than Christ should have any importance. But yes, we did our best as Finns, and sang with a great chorus the great Crouch Classic: "Jesus is the answer." It was a message that rang in my heart.
In particular, I was delighted when a Black Gospel radio Dei Specialist, "Fat City!" Radio Dei program Disc-jockey, Andraé Crouch's old friend, and fan Christian-Charles de Plicque sneaked away from the hospital in Karleby and flew down to Helsinki between his treatments, and reached the reserved front row seat for him, to enjoy the event.
When these two 70 year something, disease fighting artists, talking between themselves amongst so many of us, at the after concert dinner party, until the early hours, I was grateful to God for this encounter.
Hundreds or more are listening to Radio Dei's: " Fat City!" Black Gospel programs, presented by Christian-Charles de Plicque. These men are living in God's miracles and they still manage to do new concerts and new music.
de Plicque recently released the new album: "Dying to Live!" and Andraé Crouch's 18th album: "The Journey" was released in America just before the tour in Scandinavia and is soon to be in Finland. It's worth asking Radio Dei's Radiance CD Internet Store about both of these cds....
